REGENTS PARK U11’s WIN THEIR LEAGUE IN STYLE !

Following their 12-0 victory over Tufnell Park last week, Regent’s Park clinched the U11 B league in style last night defeating the nearest challengers Chapel 4-1 to ensure the league title and bring the first piece of silverware to the year old club.

Chapel started the stronger of the two sides and took the lead in the 2nd minute. After 12 minutes Alexander Von Daehne equalised after the goalkeeper parried a shot from Ricky Louch. For the rest of the half the teams swapped goal scoring opportunities with Regent’s Park goalkeeper Toby Lane saving brilliantly twice to deny Chapel.

The scores remained level until 5 minutes from the end when Veton Derguti scored with a truly brilliant header from a corner in the 45th minute. His well placed header beat both the Chapel goalkeeper and a defender placed on the line.

Chapel responded by pressing forward seeking an equaliser that would bring them the title but consequently left gaps at the back which Regent’s Park exploited.

In the penultimate minute Cillian Davis scored to ensure the title and then in the final minute Randell Williams scored the fourth goal to complete Regent’s Park’s joy and the title.

Isledon Wolves U 9 v Regents Park U 9
Market Road (Pitch 4) 5pm

On a glorious sunny evening at Market Road, Regents Park Under 9 Panthers
saved the best until last, putting in a fantastic team performance to win
4-0. Every single member of the team played to the best of his ability and
their skill, passing and movement was exquisite. Most pleasing is how well
the boys played as a unit. They have great team spirit, and this gives each
boy the confidence to express himself on the pitch, which is a joy to watch.
They are getting better all the time, and are sure to be a team to reckon
with next season.

From the first whistle, Regents Park went on the attack, and shots were
zooming in from all directions. One powerful long range effort from Aiden
Mesias was given as a goal kick, though it looked as if it had gone in to
the goal and out through a hole in the side-netting. Isledon Wolves tried to
counter attack, but found it hard to get past the back line of Noah
Breuss-Burgess, William Ross and Elijah Hammond-Dallas, who were not only
rock solid all evening, but also passed the ball beautifully out of defence
to start Regents Park going forward again. The breakthrough came after a
great run and left footed shot by Tommy Nevrkla to put Regents Park 1-0 up.
Isledon were unlucky not to equalise straight afterwards, as their number 2
sent a powerful shot just over the bar, and their number 14 also had a
second good effort saved by in-form Dev Khemani. Regents Park immediately
hit back with another neat passing move which resulted in a well-deserved
goal for striker Darius Parvizi-Wayne. After the restart, more lovely
creative play across the midfield gave Tommy Nevrkla the ball on the edge of
the area. He skillfully beat several players to score again, putting
Regents Park 3-0 up at half time.

Both teams had started the match with 7 players, but by the beginning of the
second half Isledon had an eighth, and his fresh legs gave them impetus
after the break. Regents Park had some defending to do, which they did
valiantly. Noah Breuss-Burgess's tackling was superb, and William Ross was
also brilliant, clearing one shot off the line. Dev Khemani had to make
several good saves and Isledon were really unlucky not to score after this
period of pressure. Regents Park kept their heads though, and soon found
their rhythm again. Elijah Hammond-Dallas, who was tenacious in defence all
evening, showed the other side of his game with some lovely skills and
attacking runs, Aiden Mesias juggled the ball Brazilian-style, and Tommy
Nevrkla twice flicked the ball over the head of his marker. The boys were
really enjoying themselves! By the last quarter of the match though, you
could see all the running starting to take its toll, and thank goodness for
Timon Greaves, who arrived with typical enthusiasm and fresh legs to take
his place in the team. More Regents Park attacks followed, with narrow
misses by Aiden Mesias, Tommy Nevrkla and Darius Parvizi-Wayne. Finally a
lovely through pass by Darius Parvizi-Wayne was converted by Timon Greaves
just before full-time, to give Regents Park their best win of the season.
Well done to all the boys for giving us all such an entertaining football
game to watch!

4th April 6pm - Regents Park U10 v Islington Tufnell Youth

Friday night at Market Road proved to be a huge success for the Regents Park U10s as they had a fantastic start with a goal from Sol within the first two minutes of the game.   Tufnell equalised quickly, following an intercepted backfield pass.  Regents Park fought back with a second goal from Jack Dickie but Tufnell equalised again just before the half.

John's halftime talk reinforced the teams thinking with how well they were passing and that they could win this if they wanted to.   In the Second half, Jack Lawlor put RPFC ahead by tapping in a goal-front pass, and then a late goal from Dexter Bohn sealed the win for the team. Both Sol and Dexter took it in turn to play in goal making some excellent saves whilst Michael played an excellent game in defence.   The team on whole pulled together and had an excellent game full of enthusiasm and passion not to mention lots of passing skill.  This has secured their place in 8th  position in the league with only two points away from 7th  place. WELL DONE

Regents Park FC's U-11 Panthers returned to their winning ways with an emphatic 8-1 win over AC Juniors that took them top of the table in the Camden & Islington U-11 B league.

On an unusually mild evening at Market Road, Regents Park didn't look entirely comfortable early on, struggling to break down a well-organized Juniors defense, with the second-from-bottom side even threatening occasionally on the break and from set pieces. But gradually Regents Park found their stride, and two minutes before the break the side deservedly took the lead when Alexander von Daehne's deflected shot was helped on its way by Cillian Davies.   A minute later, nerves settled as left back Sam Ridley embarked on one of his trademark attacking runs and smashed home the second after a nifty one-two with winger Veton Derguti.

After the break, Regents Park started playing their usual, flowing football, and free-scoring striker Cillian added his second to make it 3-0. After AC Juniors finally eluded defender Milo Belcher and put one past goalkeeper Toby Lane, two goals from Veton, including a volley directly from an inswinging corner by Randell Williams, and a tap-in from Cillian after a mazy run from Randell, made it 6-1. Ricky Louch then crowned another tenacious performance with a fine solo effort, before his central midfield partner Alexander, well put through by Josh Keen, wrapped up a fine all-round performance to make it 8-1.

Regents Park are now two points ahead of Crown & Manor at the top of the table, with Chapel Boys a further point behind but with a game in hand, and Peel FC in fourth also still harboring hopes of winning the title in what promises to be a dramatic run-in.

u11 Panthers v. Isledon Wolves Cup match 14th March 2008, Market Road

3-3 after extra time - Final Score: 6-7 to Isledon on penalties

Regents Park started the match slowly and were surprised by an early Wolves goal 5 minutes into the match. Ten minutes later a long-range effort by Wolves found the net and made it 2-0 at half time.

RPFC started the second half far more positively and 10 minutes into the half their efforts were rewarded with a goal. Ricky Louch directed a left foot drive into the bottom left corner of the Wolves goal. Just 3 minutes afterwards RPFC were awarded a free kick, which Randell Williams powered into the net from long range. The Panthers kept up the pressure and were rewarded with another free kick, which Randall again took. This time his effort narrowly missed the Wolves goal and the sides were left level at the end of normal time.

Early in the first period of extra time, Randell pounced on a poor clearance by the Wolves goalkeeper and buried the ball in the back of the net to make it 3-2 to the Panthers. However, the Wolves side continued to show admirable spirit and responded almost immediately with an equalizer. Despite continued pressure from the Panthers throughout the full 20 minutes of extra time, the Wolves defence refused to leak any further goals. With the sides level on 3-3 at the end of extra time, the match was to be decided by a high-pressure penalty shoot-out.

The tension for both players and supporters reached almost unbearable proportions as the crowds of onlookers swelled to massive proportions, eager to witness the dramatic spectacle. All seven Panthers penalty takers – Jack, Josh, Ricky, Sam, Randell, Cillian, and Alexander – rose to the occasion with incredible bravery, and Toby, the Panthers keeper, was almost the hero of the night by very nearly pulling off an audacious save. At the end of a memorable night, Wolves emerged from the penalty lottery as the winners, having successfully converted seven place kicks in a row, against the Panthers' six.

Under 9 Alan Michael Browne Challenge Cup

Lyndhurst U 9 v Regents Park U 9 [ Round 1 ]
Market Road (Pitch 2) Friday 14 March at 5pm

Lyndhurst 1 Regents Park 0

On a damp evening at Market Road these two sides battled hard against one another in an evenly matched cup tie.  Regents Park started on the offensive, but play was a little scrappy, and the best chances of the first half fell to Lyndhurst.  Regents Park defended very well, Noah Breuss-Burgess and the ever consistent William Ross putting in some excellent tackles. There were good saves at both ends, with Regents Park's Ben Ridley clearing one ball heroically off the line to keep the score 0 – 0 at half time.  In the second half Regents Park began to pass the ball better.  Substitute Tommy Nevrkla made some incisive runs down the left and put in some great crosses which front men Oliver James and Darius Parvizi-Wayne were unlucky not to convert.  A strong shot from William Ross was saved by the Lyndhurst keeper, and a Tommy Nevrkla shot whistled just past the post before Lyndhurst broke away and scored a very good goal on the stroke of full time to snatch a win.

Friday 7th March, Under 10 Challenge Cup Round 1

Lyndhurst A team V Regents Park

Regents Park U10's were knocked out of the challenge cup tonight by Lyndhurst A team, however the boys should hold their heads up high as they played a great game, improving minute by minute.

The team were very nervous tonight knowing they were playing an A team and it showed, however after a few minutes Lyndhurst had their first shot on target and Teen made a fantastic save which gave the team more confidence, shortly after this Regents Park made an own goal however it was disallowed.  The team got a sudden burst of energy and really starting pulling together Lincoln, Gev and Jack held a tight defence against Lyndhurst's strong strikers.

Jack Vorhees had several fantastic shots on target but Lyndhurst's keeper was on top form and saved them all. Lyndhurst scored several goals in the first half  and a smooth pass from Ness to Jordan resulted in a fantastic shot on goal, however they remained goalless when the ball hit the post.

After half time Regents Park came back onto the pitch with their heads held high and remaining upbeat even after Lyndhurst scored more goals.  The players came together as a team keeping in their positions well making nice passes and at every opportunity passing the ball down the field.  Although the team were disapointed they should be proud at how they played, there has been a huge amount of improvement in thier skills and how they work together as a team.

Overall this team has had a difficult season but they have really come together, they put in 100% effort and are not phased when they loose. they keep their heads up and their enthusiasm is energising.  They are improving and working together more each match.  They don't argue about who is to blame and they grow stronger as a team all the time.  They are all winners for their fantastic attitudes, well done boys!

REGENTS PARK vs FINSBURY 23rd February Market Road

Regents Park broke clear again at the top of the Under 11s ‘B' League following a comfortable 5-0 victory over Finsbury Park at Market Road on Friday night. Regents Park dominated from the start with Veton Derguti giving Regents Park the lead after only 2 minutes. Notwithstanding lots of Regents Park possession Finsbury Park went in at half time only one down.

However after 6 minutes of the second half Ricky Lough dribbled through the Finsbury Park defence to double the lead. After 10 minutes Alec Jacoby playing in an unaccustomed forward role scored to make it 3-0. Ricky Louch doubled his personal total with the fourth on 40 minutes and then finally Alec Jacoby got his second of the night to make it 5-0 to seal the victory. There was an additional bonus when challengers Crown and Manor unexpectedly drew later on in the evening 1-1 with bottom placed Islington Admiral which allowed Regents Park to open up a 2 point lead at the top of the table.

Regent Park U9'B' vs Mallinson 23rd February Regents Park

Regents Park 1 – Mallinson 0

Regent's Park got off to a shaky start and seemed a little bewildered by the pace of their more senior opponents.  They did well not to concede an early goal while they settled down and were very well served by their goal keeper Eddy Edelman McCabe. In the closing minutes of the first half Regents Park started to show that they had settled down and were able to take two or three shots at goal.  There should have been a few more opportunities if the ball had been passed before some good individual efforts ended in the ball being lost to the opposition.

In the second half Regents Park played more of their own game and some good passing between the team members made for very attractive play.  Mallinson also seemed to up their game a notch and launched a few dangerous looking runs at our goal.  The Regents Park defence was excellent with good cover defence provided by all the players.  Benedict Weldon in particular did a fine job.  It was good to see such commitment from such a young team.

It seemed certain the match would end in a goalless draw when suddenly, after some good passing, Lucas Terceiro showed fine finishing skills to squeezed the ball passed the Mallinson keeper for a well deserved goal.  The whole team erupted with delight.

Hampstead U 9 v Regents Park U 9, 6pm, Friday 22 February, Pitch 3, Market Road

Result : 1 - 1

Hampstead has long been one of the teams to beat in the Camden & Islington League, but this Regents Park team, new to the League this season, has been growing in confidence and improving week on week.  The team has always had skilful individual players, but under coach James Noonan they are now really starting to gel as a team and showed real grit yesterday against a team which beat them 5 – 2 when they first met last Autumn.

The match started with both sides looking cagey and trying not to give much away.  Regents Park settled into their rhythm earlier and spent most of the first half on the attack.  Darius Parvizi-Wayne narrowly missed from an excellent corner by dead ball specialist Aiden Mesias before the breakthrough came three minutes before half time, when Tommy Nevrkla found the net with a strong left footed shot across the face of goal to put Regents Park 1 – 0 up.  Hampstead fought back straight away, but great tackling by Regents Park and fantastic goalkeeping by Dev Khemeni kept a clean sheet.  Indeed, Regents Park almost scored again on the stroke of half-time, and thoroughly deserved their lead going into the break.  In the second half Hampstead came out fighting, and play was fast and furious.  Hampstead pressure finally led to the equaliser with around 10 minutes left to play, but Regents Park kept their heads up and fought hard to stay in contention.  William Ross was a rock in defence, Elijah Hammond-Dallas showed great skill and determination on the left and Timon Greaves chased down every ball, in what was a brilliant team performance by every player.  Both sides had great chances to win the match, but in the end a draw was probably a fair result.

Under 11's (4th February)

Regents Park last night broke clear at the top of the Under 11s ‘B' League following a hard fought 2-1 victory over fourth placed Peel at Market Road on Monday Night.

The match remained goalless until 10 minutes into the second half when Randell Williams put Regents Park into the lead after a long range shot from Josh Keen.  Regents Park doubled their lead 5 minutes later when Sam Ridley slotted the ball home after a goal mouth scramble in the Peel goal. With 4 minutes to go Peel pulled one back but Regents Park defended with determination to hold out for the win.

The result leaves Regents Park 3 points ahead of Crown and Manor and Chapel Boys who are on 24 points.
